The Bush campaign listed Michael Karloutsos in 2003 as an employee of the Cronos Group, an international shipping-container giant. After Philadelphia’s school district recruited Chicago School District head Paul Vallas to be its CEO in 2002, Vallas put Karloutsos in charge of recruiting corporate money for Philadelphia schools. The school district agreed to pay Karloutsos’ New York-based MAK Consulting $48,000 to do this fundraising in 2002. The district renewed this contract in 2003 for an amount of up to $106,000. Karloutsos’ wife, Anastasia, also works in the district’s Office of School and Community Relations. She and her husband were married by Karloutsos’ father--Greek Orthodox Church leader Alexander Karloutsos, who contributed $1,000 to Bush in 2000.
