Corporate executives and business owners dominate Bush’s Pioneer-Ranger network. They account for 69 percent (377) of Bush's elite 2004 donors and 68 percent (449) of his elite donors for 2000 and 2004 combined.

• Ninety-two 2004 elite Bush donors (17 percent) are full- or part-time lobbyists. Lobbying is the principal occupation of 63 of these donors, either as hired guns or as staff lobbyists for companies or trade groups. Lobbyists also account for 16 percent (108) of Bush’s elite donors for 2000 and 2004 combined.

 
• Forty-eight 2004 elite donors (9 percent) are corporate lawyers. When the 2000 and 2004 elite donors are combined, there are 60 corporate attorneys, again accounting for 9 percent of the total.

 
• Thirty-seven elite 2004 donors (7 percent) are principally employed as elected or appointed public officials. Public officials account for 10 percent (69) of Bush’s elite donors for 2000 and 2004 combined. One reason why the share of elite donors who are public officials increases when the 2000 Pioneers are included is that the Bush administration has had more time to appoint its early elite donors to key federal posts.
