Public interest groups in Texas say some state lawmakers are misusing their privileges for financial gain. Businesses involved in court cases can pay state legislators, who are also lawyers, to request continuances on their behalf. Lawyers can get up to $100,000 to apply "legislative continuances," and judges have no discretion in those cases. NPR's Wade Goodwyn reports from Austin. Listen Here
